Parents looking for a much-needed change of scenery that includes adult conversation, a caffeine fix and space for kids to gather or play love our list of San Diego coffee shops that welcome children and feature kid-friendly menu items. It’s true that great coffee (or tea) and happy kids can coexist—even thrive—under the same roof (or patio cover). Here are some if our favorite cafés that are perfect for families. Call a friend and schedule a parent meet-up!
Blue Whale – La Jolla
This casual café in the village of La Jolla serves coffee, tea, smoothies, lunch and dinner. Take advantage of their outdoor seating and enjoy a latte while little ones sip on an Acapulco acai smoothie. Just a 10-minute walk to the water; be sure to bring sand toys!
Communal Coffee – South Park
With a large, semi-enclosed outdoor patio, the adorable coffee trailer in South Park is a perfect spot to unwind with kids in tow. The aesthetics offer countless photo-ops and there’s even a small store with products for babies and kids. Try a matcha, espresso or iced coffee and grab a salted maple sausage sandwich while you’re there. They also have brick and mortar shops in North Park and Oceanside.
Daniel’s Coffee Cart – Balboa Park

Don’t be fooled by the small size of this coffee cart located inside Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park. They deliver big when it comes to quality and the location can’t be beat when hanging out with other parents and kids. Stop by before or after riding the carousel, mini train or visiting a museum. Grab a Mexican mocha and let the kids run around the colorful tiles inside the plaza. They’ll love cooling down with a delicious, blended peanut butter frapp.
