Fall Flowers Craft

Fall Flowers

These fun and easy flowers make an inexpensive but beautiful centerpiece for the Thanksgiving table!

  Supplies:

  Sheets of colored tissue paper
  Newspaper pages
  Scissors
  Clear tape

  Here's How:
1.| Start by removing a page from the newspaper, (the fall grocery inserts  work great for this project).
2.| Use scissors to cut “fringe” along one long edge of the page. Make the cuts about 1/8” to 1/4” apart and about 2” deep.
3.| Next, starting at a short edge of the sheet, roll it tightly to create the flower stem, with the fringe at one end for the flower center. With clear tape, secure the loose end of the paper along the length of the stem.
4.| Cut a piece of tissue in half the short way and fold it 3 or 4 times the long way until the strip is about 3” wide. Smooth the folded strip firmly to crease it together.
5.| Cut fringe along the length of the strip, stopping short at one side to avoid cutting the fringe all the way off.
6.| Lay the tissue down and place the newspaper stem on top at one end, lining up the fringed edges (see photo).
7.| Roll the stem up the tissue strip until the tissue is completely wrapped around; secure the loose end of the petals with clear tape and lightly “fluff” the flower.
8.| Create as many flowers as desired, then place them in a nice vase and they are ready to display for the entire season!

  More ideas:

  • Measurements, cuts and folds do not need to be exact; try variations for different looks.
  • Use more than one color of tissue for a fun touch.
  • Instead of placing the flowers in a vase, tie the bouquet together with a pretty ribbon and it’s ready to “deliver” as a gift to any deserving recipient!
  • For an added detail, cut the fringe with sharp pinking shears or other decorative-edge scissors.
  • Add hand-made leaves to the stems or land a paper butterfly on one of the flowers.
  • Lightly spray the flowers with a room spray, like “pumpkin pie.”
  • Add a sign that says “Give Thanks” to the bouquet.
  • Make tiny ones and give them to friends and family to wear as Thanksgiving corsages.
  • Write something to be thankful for along the stems.
  • After the meal, send one flower home with each guest.
  • Make flowers to adorn place settings and napkin rings.
  • Embellish the flowers with small touches of paint or glitter on the edges of the petals.
  • Try making these flowers out of other materials like magazine pages, scrapbooking paper, fabric, felt, used gift-wrap or even plastic bags.
  • Change the colors to make festive bouquets for Mother’s Day, Independence Day, Halloween or Christmas.
