Miramar Speed Circuit

Kart Racing and Laser Tag Fun for All Ages

“We provide family, group and corporate entertainment through thrilling kart racing and state-of-the-art laser tag,” says Jim Richardson, president of Miramar Speed Circuit.

“We are the only facility in San Diego that provides sophisticated wheel-to-wheel kart racing at phenomenal speeds and full scale laser tag. We are proud of both of our products and will stand them up individually against any of the competition. Since we offer them both topped off with tremendous customer service and hands-on management, we really feel like we can’t be beat,” Richardson says. Miramar Speed Circuit is locally owned and operated.

They offer 5-day karting/laser tag summer camps. “This is a great program that includes kart racing, laser tag, crafts, lunch and more,” Richardson says. “The camp is available to all kids under 12 and at least 48 inches tall.”

Girl Scout Adventures Available to Individuals and Troops

“Girl Scouting opens doors to a new world,” says Janine Rojas, communications specialist. “Girl Scouts are always counting down to their next adventure: sculpting, launching rockets, scaling mountains or exploring careers. In Girl Scouting, the sky’s the limit! As they try new things and develop leadership skills, girls discover, connect and take action, making the world a better place.”

Belonging to a traditional troop is not the only path to Girl Scouting. Girls may participate as individual members, making new friends as they travel, attend events or go to camp. Girl Scout camp is for grades K-12. Flexible rates and financial assistance make camp affordable.

“Our day and overnight sessions feature themes from archery to zoology and also include traditional camp fun,” says Rojas. “Register now for Canoe Adventure, The Glee Project, Living Coast, Girl vs. Wild or Mini-Adventure camp. With 159 choices, there’s a camp for every girl!”

Students Benefit from a Combined School and Home Study Approach

“Heartland Christian Homeschool Center was started in 1991 to give students and parents the opportunity to experience the best of both school and home study,” says Lynda Hansen, principal. “It’s what makes our school unique. Children attend school three days a week and are homeschooled on alternate days,” she continues. “We set up each child at his learning level with organized, proven, Bible-based curriculum.”

The Heartland campus in Spring Valley includes a playground and offers lesson plans, cumulative record keeping, standardized testing, field trips, physical education, social interaction, affordable tuition and parental support.

“All of our instructors are or have been homeschooling parents,” Hansen says. “They each have a growing relationship with the Lord. Excellence is the result of these educated, experienced, dedicated instructors. Many of our high school graduates attend and graduate from college.”

Drawn2Art

Classical Art Instruction Comes to San Diego

“Drawn2Art teaches classical, realistic drawing and painting” says Jaci Stern, director. “Students learn to draw and paint subjects such as still-life, the figure, landscapes, cartoons, animals and more. Drawn2Art’s philosophy is that ‘creativity follows mastery’ and that basics need to be learned to avoid frustration and boredom.”

Founded 28 years ago by Ed and Sher Warren, the program serves more than 3,000 students weekly in California and Washington. San Diego’s first Drawn2Art location is being opened in Rancho Peñasquitos by Stern and Anna Sheklow.

“Students of all ages are inspired by being taught individually,” Stern says. “They concentrate intently, learning to draw and paint the way the masters learned centuries ago. Students only need to bring ‘interest’ to class; Drawn2Art supplies the rest: technique, basics, fun, pride and a sense of ability that most students never even knew they had. Register, start by July 31 and receive $25 off your first month of classes.”

USS Midway

Experience History Aboard the Longest-Serving Aircraft Carrier of the 20th Century

“The USS Midway Museum is the most-visited naval ship museum in the world,” says Scott McGaugh, marketing director. “We build a bridge between the Greatest Generation and future generations as a naval aviation museum, tribute and family destination. Admission includes a self-guided audio tour (in six languages) narrated by Midway sailors, and a separate self-guided audio tour just for kids. Family activities include climb-in aircraft, walk-through helicopters, videos, flight simulators, knot-tying games, ‘strap in’ ejection seats and cockpits.”

“July 4 fireworks are a huge hit with San Diego families,” McGaugh continues. “They can bring blankets and camping chairs to enjoy overhead fireworks.” There will be activities for the kids on the flight deck, live entertainment and more.

“This is the Midway’s 10th anniversary and we have a major ‘Thank You San Diego’ campaign underway, including a special membership offer only for San Diegans.” Find details on these events and more on their website.
