McDonald’s Goes from Bean to “Green” with Recycling Program

McDonald’s knows supporting the environment and your community is important to your family. That’s why their “Good Neighbor Good Grounds” recycling program is designed to divert used coffee grounds from the waste stream and promote their use as a boost of nutrients for soil or compost.

One of McDonald’s goals is to minimize waste and increase the amount of in-restaurant recycling to 50 percent by 2020. That includes coffee grounds and espresso beans, which contribute to greenhouse gas emissions when they begin decomposing in a landfill. Luckily, coffee grounds make a great soil fertilizer for gardening!

Through the recycling program, participating restaurants package coffee grounds and donate them to local schools, libraries, customers and other public resources for gardening at no extra cost.

Adventure Abounds at Montessori Child Development Center
At Montessori Child Development Center (MCDC), experienced teachers inspire a love of learning in a home-like environment with programs for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarteners. Outdoor-adventure abounds at MCDC where children are surrounded by nearly two acres of park-like land with farm animals, vegetable gardens and grassy play areas with beautiful shade trees. Inside, children are motivated to learn in an environment where they are treated like unique individuals and guided by teachers who understand their needs.

“Thanks to extraordinary teachers and supportive staff, we have watched our son grow from a shy toddler to a confident kindergartner,” says Alpha Ray of Rancho Bernardo.

MCDC provides daily afterschool programs for children enrolled as full-day students. Programs include music, art, yoga, cooking and more. Montessori Super Summer Camp activities are organized around weekly themes such as Storytelling and Drama, Arts and Crafts, and Science and Swimming. Now enrolling for summer and fall.
