Starring Paul Bettany, Karl Urban, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q

Priest is taken from a Gothic comic. They should have left it there. This dark and depressing world, the remnants of a world destroyed by war between humans and vampires, is now run by the church.

Priests, formerly non-violent people, are now the protectors of this world, fighting with everything but guns and killing all the vampires. I’m not sure why they don’t use guns.

When we arrive on the scene, the war is supposed to be over and vampires are relegated to live in one place and not invade the human world. Of course, they can’t resist us and sneak in, taking the big hero priest’s niece captive. He breaks all his vows to rescue her.

Priest is a dark movie with truly scary vampire-like creatures popping up everywhere. The Priest (Bettany) – for he has no name, another female priest and the girl’s boyfriend (Gigandet) are the only good guys in the movie. While the film tried to develop the character of the priest by revealing a little of his background along the way, I found the characters hollow and the movie all about being scary with lots of violence and disgusting creatures drooling mucus. There is no sex or bad language. Priest is best for children 12 and up who can stand such a dark film.
