COMMENTS: Being a big Stephen King fan myself, this movie was pretty much what I expected. It was scary throughout then closed with a surprising ending. It was predictable but enjoyable. I would not take anyone under 15 to see it because of the terrifying scenes. It opened slowly until the star (John Cusack) checked into room 1408 at the hotel, then it got going quickly. It was hard (but not confusing) to tell if things were real or imagined, but everything was answered at the end of the movie. The only disappointment was the little amount of time that Samuel L. Jackson and Tony Shalhoub (2 of my favorites) were on the screen. It was definitely a John Cusack movie. The images of his dead daughter were creepy but moving. Overall, I totally enjoyed the movie, and actually jumped with fright twice during the movie. See it if you are a King fan. |

COMMENTS: My husband and I enjoyed this movie very much. A slice of history, a true tale of the underdog and his battle for right, very relevant to these times. Our daughter thought it was OK, long and boring. Nothing objectionable for the younger set (apart from some low cut gowns) but recommended for older kids who are interested in history. COMMENTS: Jerry Seinfeld and Renee Zelleweger are great together in this movie. Seinfeld is Barry B. Benson, a bee who does not want to settle for a standard bee job that he will have to stay in for the rest of his bee life. When it comes time to choose his job, he decided to venture out to the world. There he runs into some trouble and gets involved with Vanessa, a human (Zellweger). They are cute together. Barry and Vanessa then create a few problems by suing humans for stealing honey. They win the case but the problems are not over. Barry and Vanessa have to make it better again for humans and the bees. I think this movie is adorable. Great for kids and adults. There is not a violent scene, bad language or any sex in this movie.

Be Kind Rewind 030308

STARS: 5
CHILDREN AGES: 18, 13
COMMENTS:‘Be Kind Rewind’ starring Jack Black, Mos Def, Danny Glover, with Mia Farrow is a cute, entertaining movie that children and adults/parents will
both enjoy! My children(ages 13 & 18), and I (40-something), viewed it at Ultra Star Mission Valley last week and thoroughly enjoyed it, which can sometimes be challenging considering our age differences! Set in New Jersey, an “old school” video store faces foreclosure. Jack Black, a regular who hangs out at the store accidentally de-magnetizes all the VHS movies while owner Danny Glover is away on business. Realizing his wrongdoing, he and clerk Mos Def, set about to re-shoot every movie in the store’s inventory. We especially found their “remakes” of ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Lion King’ hilarious! Mia Farrow (yes, Mia Farrow!), plays the role of a customer who frequents the video store every day. Adults and children of all ages will find this movie worthy of seeing. We give it 4 STARS!!! |

COMMENTS: This movie is horrific. I am a grown adult and I will probably get bad dreams from watching the gruesome, disgusting evil monster named Grendel. The amount of gore and blood is way too much and it should come with a special warning not PG-13. I am not a person to leave a movie but I couldn't stay because the story line did not make it worth staying for loud, obnoxious, bloodied violent scenes. |

COMMENTS: Funny and awesome! Will Ferrell at his best! I laughed so hard during this movie that it was all I could talk about with my wife afterwards. I recommend it to anyone who's a Will Ferrell fan OR who loves comedy in general.
Jonathan Bennett
STARS: 4
CHILDREN AGES:
COMMENTS: A stupid(in a good way), but incredibly hilarious film. I've never been a big fan of Will Ferrell(besides Stranger than Fiction) and I hate Jon Heder with a passion, but both of them have great chemistry and made me laugh so hard everytime they were on screen together. But the main thing that keeps the film going is the fantastic supporting cast including such incredibly talent comedic actors, such as Will Arnett(from one of my favorite shows, Arrested Development), Amy Poehler(from SNL and Upright Citizen's Brigade) and Jenna Fischer(from the Office), even when the film lags, they still keep it funny enough to forgive some of the film's flaws.
Now onto the negatives, it's a bit too short, there was a fair amount of people that were extremely underused, mainly Craig T. Nelson, Romany Malco, and William Fichnter(possible spelling mistake), while they add a fair amount of extra humor to the film, they still aren't used enough, but besides that, this movie had me in stitches for almost the entire running time. In terms of content, profainity is minor, but there's a heavy amount of crude humor and sexual references(Mainly the fact that Will Ferrell's character is supposedly a sex addict), and there's a scene of sexual content (although it's interruped, before it actually happens) which shows some partial nudity, there's also a disturbing image seen on a tv, that while it's intended for humorous, it might be a bit disturbing for anyone who's under 12. If you aren't easily offended and you're looking for a good laugh, then this one's definitely worth seeing. |

COMMENTS: I enjoyed this movie, not only because I think that Jodie Foster is a really good actress, but because I like the role that she plays. She is a strong, independent, career woman who manages to find love and is living a good life. This movie quickly turns from happiness into trajedy. The couple is attacked in their local park while walking their dog. They were not doing anything wrong and they were not in a bad place. The attack is brutal and senseless. I was tearing up. When they are taking them into the emergency room there is something unique that happens in the movie that is very touching and the way that they filmed it with the scenes switching back & forth between the hospital and... |

STARS: 4
CHILDREN AGES: 20, 22
COMMENTS: Good movie. More battle scenes than the first one, less story, which is true of the books too. So they had to add material to flesh it out. Most of the additions are fine but for big fans of the books a couple times they went too far. Caspian's Spanish accent works most of the time, but can you say Inigo Montoya, anyone? Battle scenes are borderline PG-13 although bloodless. Special effects outstanding.

COMMENTS: I haven't read the book either but I loved the movie. I only wish I had re-watched the first Narnia movie again before watching this one. I was a little confusing but all my questions were answered by the end. The ending is a bit sad but good. Dan in Real Life 010708
Julio Sanchez
STARS: 3
CHILDREN AGES: 2
COMMENTS: This movie was funny but it did have a few times throughout the movie that you wondered why they had bothered with a particular scene. The storyline about Dan and Marie carried on for too long. Steve Carell played Dan, a widowed father who has 3 girls. The family gets together for a reunion and Dan meets a woman but he doesn't know that she is his brother's new girlfriend. Now here's my problem because it was clear to me that the brother was into the girlfriend so I really don't understand why Dan and Marie kept on with the games. It made it worse for the family and I think it made it bad for Dan's girls. At the end, all is resolved and everybody gets what they want but real life doesn't work that way. It's a good movie to rent for the funny parts.

STARS: 5
CHILDREN AGES:
COMMENTS: The main reason I went to see this movie is because The Rock is the star, but I knew it would be enjoyable because it's a Disney movie. I was right! This is the cutest, funniest, most entertaining movie that I have seen in a long time. The Rock, as Joe the football hero, was great. He is not only good looking but can really act. I have enjoyed him in action movies, and now he proves that he can do comedy, too. The little girl who plays his daughter, Peyton, was wonderful. The supporting actors, especially Joe's agent and the football team players, added a lot to the humor. The story line was predictable because we have seen other movies where a dad discovers he has a child he never knew about. But The Game Plan is done with such creativity and freshness and humor that I was rooting (silently) for a happy ending. The funniest scene was when Joe ate one of Peyton's cookies and couldn't talk right because he was allergic to the cinnamon in the cookie. The whole audience at the theater was laughing or giggling all the way thru the movie. There was never a dull moment. I would recommend this movie to all ages, and I will be one of the first to buy it on DVD.

COMMENTS: Wasn't sure if the movie was appropriate for my 6 year old daughter, but she enjoyed it. Once she realized the skeleton lookin dude was a good guy fighting evil and protecting the one he loves, it got 2 thumbs up from me and her! Great effects along with action pack scenes that kept us on our seats throughout the film. Marvel rules! |

COMMENTS: I was a bit disappointed after all the hype. One of those movies where the previews make the movie seem better than the it is when you watch the whole thing. Story had a unique ending - not what I predicted and the acting was good and so were the computerized effects. I didn't bring my child as I wanted to review it first and I don't plan to take her but maybe when it goes to video. |

COMMENTS: The Great Debaters is based on a true story. It is the story of a small African-American Texas College putting together a debate team that was a national powehouse in the 1930's. Denzel Washington directs and appears as Professor Tolson. It is a good story and shows how blatant discrimination used to be. |

COMMENTS: This movie is very entertaining not to mention the featured songs are very catchy. There was never a dull moment. John Travolta
playing a woman was really weird but he pulled it off. My daughters and I watched a premier of this movie and we do think its well worth watching. Nikki Blonsky was perfectly casted as Tracy Turnblad. This movie proves that if you set your heart on something, eventually you will get it.

COMMENTS: This is a fun-filled, get-you-going, shake-the-blues kind of movie. It is packed with so much entertainment. John Travolta is fantastic! We laughed and wanted to get up and dance (I don't think the rest of the audience would have appreciated it) Not a big fan of musicals myself, I found this movie to be engaging as well as believable! I recommend everyone to go see this movie.

COMMENTS: A very cute movie. The music was good too. Musicals are better live, but this made me want to see it on stage. John Travolta in drag and fat suit was unsually weird, especially with his low voice. But when he danced--which is what he does best, after all--he was a scream. I don't think young kids would like this movie unless they are into musical theater. Teens might like it, especially girls.

COMMENTS: My husband and I took our 9 year old daughter, and although she was the only 'real' fan, the show entertained all 3 of us! We liked how
the concert showed Miley both as her character Hannah and her true persona, and we finally got to see what all the fuss was surrounding the Jonas Brothers! (We all think Miley is much more talented!) We were glad to have taken our daughter to see it, and are thankful stars such as down-to-earth Miley still exist for our daughters to look up to.

| Knocked Up
061807 Margie McGuigan STARS: 4
CHILDREN AGES: 17
COMMENTS: Knocked Up is a not-to-be-missed comedy, but only for (at least) 14+ yrs and up. After graphic sexual images and numerous drug-partaking scenes....the movie does deliver the message that new parents need to be responsible, committed, caring partners. The viewer, however, needs to have maturity to enjoy the process and get the message.
Jonathan Bennett
STARS: 4
CHILDREN AGES:
COMMENTS: Judd Apatow has another winner with Knocked Up, combining raunchy humor with believeable characters and alot of heart to go along with it. The performances are fantastic, although none of the actors are gonna get oscar nominations, obviously, the characters are both sweet and at the same time, flawed. The writing is near-perfect, the film is filled with plenty of quotes that you'll be saying non-stop once the film ends. It isn't without it's flaws though, it's a bit too long at 129 minutes, and because of that, it starts to drag a bit, but aside from that, this is one of the best comedies I've seen in years. This movie will appeal to both teenagers (14 and up) and adults. If your kids are under 14, I'd recommend hiring a babysitter, the film has an extreme amount of content that may be offensive to a lot of parents, mainly the heavy amount of profainity, the somewhat explict sex scene, the brief scene of nudity and the drug use, plus a lot of the jokes will go over kids' heads. If you liked any of Judd Apatow's previous stuff (The 40 Year Old Virgin, Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared) then you'll love this one. |

COMMENTS: Next is an intriguing who-done-it meets Doctor Who... appealed to Dad the Sci-Fi fan, and Mom the murder mystery fan (wishing it was Tom

There is alot of gunfire but no blood, but despite that I do NOT recommend you bring a kid younger than 13 or so. It's a very complex plot, and YOU don't want to be too distracted. COMMENTS: The movie was one of the greatest movies we have seen this year! Easy for a 5 year old to follow along the plot was great the movie was not

COMMENTS: Nims Island is James Bond meets Disney(for the cute animals and children). The lead actress is charming, engaging and a good example, so. The plot involves some rather far fetched ingenuity on her part that my nine year old twins questioned. However implausible the plot, it was weell done. Jodie Foster was a little too intense and the father, Dennis Quaid appeared shy on the brains, but was a adequate parent example. The boys enjoyed the action layered on the character plots. COMMENTS: This movie about a young girl who's mother is died, and her father takes care of her is heartwarming. Nim lives on an island with her father who is a marine biologist. He leaves for 2 days to search for a new species of plankton. While at sea, his boat is destroeyed by a storm, and he tries to find his way back to his NIm. Meanwhile, Nim's island is invaded by tourist, and her favorite author is her only link to getting help. This movie was adventureous and exciting. Though caution to lillte ones
for the movie can be frightening to them, and should be for the older children. The movie has a wonderful seal, and lizard to bring laughs. The battles are for any boy to rave about. Overall, Nim's island is a movie about where books can take you, and how facing your fears can make you stronger. My kids loved the movie, and were on the edges of their seats for most of it between the laughs.

COMMENTS: It has been said of the Hollywood film industry that a strong film sequal is needed to create a film series (James Bond, Star Trek,
etc.), but the second sequal better be VERY good to create a must-see, dynasty series. Ocean's 13 IS very strong. This surprisingly non-violent film does require the audience to pay attention (I kept my 2-year-old at home!) and also a working knowledge of casino games... but the pay off is a smart movie with a surprise waiting for you.

COMMENTS: Not as good as the original (of this series) Ocean's 11, but brings the series back to the humorous and fun antics of Daniel Ocean's group of guys trying to carry out a nearly impossible robbery that was lacking in Ocean's 12. 13 is definitely worth the $10 you will pay at the box office. |

COMMENTS: Another very exciting episode full of special effects. Much like the second one, some confusing plot lines, scary creatures, and violence. Low cut gowns on some women. Leave the young kids at home but for the rest of you, enjoy. And like the first two, watch through the end of the credits.

COMMENTS: Too many plots. Two plots could have been dropped and still have had several plots to make the movie interesting and entertaining. Instead, a muddle of confusion develops. Definately for older children. Marketing to young children and having too many scary scenes seems like they don't know who they make the movie for.

COMMENTS: Once again, this was an enjoyable, fun Pirate's of the Caribbean movie. I got hooked on the first one, couldn't wait until the 2nd one, and quickly went to see the 3rd one. Could there be a 4th one? I didn't really understand the ending - I didn't like that Orlando Bloom (yummy!) died, so I guess we'll have to wait for the next installment to see what happens to him. It was a bit too long during the fighting sequence - about 30 minutes of that could have been cut out and no one would have missed it. Plus, it was so loud. During the first one, I loved Johnny Depp's character and hoped he got the girl, but Depp got goofier and more bizarre, so it was expected that Bloom would get her. Depp is an amazing actor, and I can't see any actor playing this part. Overall, the special effects (especially Davey Jones), the costumes, the acting, the scenes, all made this an enjoyable movie and I will be adding it to my DVD collection when available. Go see it if you liked the other 2 or like Johnny Depp or just want to have a good time at the movies.

COMMENTS: Starring Hilary Swank, Gerard Butler. I enjoyed most of the movie but I think it is one that you can rent instead of going to the movies. Hilary is a good actress and does a good job but the storyline is hard to believe and long... it is about a couple who have worries and concerns and argue about couple's things but she does come off as somewhat selfish and needy even from the beginning of the movie. Although, who is too say that when one's loved one dies you can't be needy or depressed for however long it takes you? How one should react or how long it should take to...

COMMENTS: This was a great film-a very good depection of the sadness and withdrawl a bereaved spouse may go through. Having several friends who've
lost their spouses, I can totally understand the actions of 'Holly' in the movie. I saw this with a guy friend and he loved it too. I won't lie-it wasn't much of a comedy as it was a tear-jerker, but it was well done nonetheless. I'm going to buy this movie when it comes out on DVD!

COMMENTS: We enjoyed the movie it was a very cute and funny movie about a rat. Although I would not want any of my kids bringing rats home to cook for us it was cute. I think Kermit and Ms Piggy were in a scene where rats were cooking and sliding on squares of butter on a griddle to make pancakes or something at a local grill in New York. It was cool to watch them cook because they were puppets. A parent had to remove her toddler from the scene where all the rats fall from the ceiling in the old grandmother home. That sort of gave me the creeps also to see so many rats in one place looking for a place to hide. The color could have been improved, such as, in the movie Nemo, that was really awesome color! Although this movie with its alleys and streets did'nt lend itself to the brillance of color shown in the movie Nemo.

COMMENTS: The movie was good. It was an action packed movie full of thrills and heroic adventures. You don't have to be a comic book lover in order to get the message. there were many valuable life lessons that would help how you determine life and the actions you take. COMMENTS: My wife, 20-month-old son and I saw this at the UltraStar Cinema in Hazard Center, and before the movie was over we were sore from
laughing. It really seemed like the four main actors were having alot of fun filming, similar to the Rat Pack movies of yesteryear. Additionally, the more-than-cameo roles provided by Marissa Tomei and Ray Liotta added more laughs. John Travolta seems like he was having fun, although his near-constant state of anxiety got a bit old. Tim Allen and Martin Lawrence were their usual funny selves, and Bill Macy was a surprise hit playing a slightly over-the-hill comedic second banana with gusto. The recurring homophobic episodes were starting to get annoying, but overall the movie was a very fun event.
