Angie Foust:
September 2003

96 cover

S
an Diego native Angie Foust is a teacher and world traveler. She’s currently a kindergarten teacher at City Tree Christian School. Since appearing on the cover of San Diego Family Magazine, Angie’s been around the globe and back. In 2003, she moved to Africa to be a volunteer second grade teacherwhere she taught for three years at an international school in Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi. In her free time, she traveled around the country with friends and volunteered with Children of the Nations, a local orphan care program.
In 2006, Angie moved across the ocean again to Bangkok, Thailand where she taught Grade 3 at a trilingual school. In Thailand, she got to experience a new culture by visiting different parts of the country where she snorkeled, held a tiger and bathed an elephant. In 2007, she returned to San Diego to teach.
SDFM asked Angie what she considers her biggest accomplishment since appearing on our cover in 2003:
“I think my biggest accomplishment since being on the cover is learning to take risks, try new things, and adapt to new situations. Life in Africa and Thailand is very different from the life I knew here. I have learned how to relax (and not wear a watch), appreciate what I have, try new food (I used to be very picky!), and I have learned that the world is a big place to be seen and people are worth getting to know. In order for me to be affected by things, I have to experience them. Meeting people whose struggles and life experiences were so different from my own has opened up my world and the way I view things.”

Michael Drummond:
September 2003

Michael was one of the first winners in the Cover Kids contest and loved participating in his first modeling job. He got a kick from seeing the food stylist on set, polishing apples for the shoot.

Since 2003, Michael’s theatrical career has taken off, with roles in a Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Old Globe, the television program "Everybody Hates Chris” and the upcoming film Winged Creatures with Dakota Fanning.

Currently in the 8th grade, Michael enjoys surfing and plans to continue working in theater and film.
