The Salvation Army Kroc Center's Newest Addition: RJ's Preschool Academy
RJ’s Preschool Academy opened on the east end of the Salvation Army Kroc Center campus in September. The Christian preschool is dedicated to quality, early childhood education for children ages 24 months to 5 years.
Preschool Director Janielle Wasser explains, “The new school offers an innovative curriculum model that helps children to read and write, extended hours, potty training, free lunch and annual hearing and vision tests. RJ’s Preschool Academy also offers unparalleled opportunities for children to explore their potential through swimming, ice skating, art, dance and sports. Each student also receives a free Kroc Center Youth membership while enrolled.”
The Center offers a wealth of education, arts and recreation resources for the community. It includes an ice arena, theater, recreation field, indoor skate park, three pools, weight room, fitness and education centers and more.
“RJ’s Preschool Academy utilizes the [Center’s] vast facilities and programs to enrich students’ education and to provide life-changing opportunities. It’s not too late to enroll your child!” Wasser says, urging parents to visit the center’s website and click on the preschool logo for more information.

Kids and Parents Enjoy Indoor Playground's Many Features
As parents of 4-year-old twins, Lyle and Ronyt Sprung knew how to create an indoor playground with both kids and adults in mind.
Kidding Around features kid favorites like air jumps, climbing structures, train tables, doll house, ride-on cars, a roller coaster and a special “crawlers only” area. Parents enjoy plenty of amenities here, too, like the full coffee bar, free Wi-Fi, same-day in-and-out privileges, an on-site boutique, and events like “Twins Day” and “$5 Wednesdays.”
Kids of all ages come to the large (4,200 sq. ft.) modern space for free-play time, or to enjoy a class (like hip-hop or music and movement).
“Kidding Around also offers fantastic birthday party packages that can meet everyone’s needs and budgets,” says Lyle, who offers both private and semi-private party options. “Our staff will take care of everything: setting up the party, facilitating the party, serving the food and most importantly, cleaning up the party when it is all done,” he continues. “We would love to host your next party at Kidding Around.”

Valuable Training in Modeling, Acting and Much More
“We are a full service modeling and acting academy,” says Karla Mena, president of Modeling Training Center. “We work on confidence building programs and workshops. MTC focuses on building character, feeling secure and also teaches great auditioning techniques for those who are serious about the industry. We have classes on runway, health and nutrition, makeup and wardrobe, skin care, photo posing, photo shoots, etiquette, business side of modeling, public speaking and presentation and more.”
An actress and model since age 3, Mena drew on her extensive background to establish MTC in 2008. “I have a lot of experience in the industry and know the ins and outs,” she says. Her instructors include active models, actors, fashion designers and photographers. “You will get to work with people in the industry who will be able to give the best feedback for those who are trying to get involved in a certain type of field.”
Mena emphasizes that training is open to everyone who has an interest in the industry, not only those who want to model, but also anyone who is curious or wants to build self-esteem. Open castings are held Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m. The Annual Fashion Show/Graduation on December 10 is open to the public.
