Indoor Playground Features Skill Enhancing Concepts from the United Kingdom
“We wanted to create a facility that was fun for the whole family and not just aimed at younger children,” says FUNBelievable Play co-owner Lynne McTurk. The equipment she and co-owner Adriana Toti imported from the U.K. is designed to stimulate children physically and enhance their social and intellectual skills as they play.
“Our playground is packed full of interactive features to encourage positive child development. We were able to create a playground unlike any other in San Diego” McTurk says.
Their newly opened 6,000-sq.-ft. location in Lakeside features a soft play space filled with racing tubes, spiral slides, aerial glides, a four-lane wave slide, rock climber and ball pool with electronic ball shower, games, an indoor sports arena and separate play area for babies and toddlers. “We are open seven days a week for open play and are suitable for children aged 0–12 years,” McTurk says. They specialize in birthdays and celebrations, host holiday camps and date nights and will soon add a timetable of classes.

Gymnastics Program Has Something for All Ages
“Our staff’s passion for fitness through gymnastics for all ages shines through the moment you walk in the door,” says Amber McGuire, marketing and PR director for North County Gymnastics and The Gyminny Kids in Rancho Bernardo. “Our family-run company goes out of its way to make sure you feel like part of the family.”
They work hard to accommodate their clients’ unique needs, like families in the military, those with multiple children or who may need flexible scheduling. Its recreational gymnastics program has offerings for ages 15 months to adult. They also host camps, birthday parties, Parents’ Nite Out, Fun Zone, Gym Zone Acro classes and Motion Evolution fitness. Their store sells gymnastics, dance and cheer equipment.
“Our staff is some of the best in the business,” says McGuire, who was a competitive gymnast herself and also has more than 10 years of coaching experience. “We take pride in knowing the children we coach are in a safe environment,” she continues. “Our clean 17,000-square-foot facility is a place where anyone can come and feel like part of the family.”

San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation Links Kids to Adults to Recreation Opportunities
The San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation offers programs for children and adults with physical disabilities.
Executive director Laurel Moorehead says, “We have programs for ages 4 years through adult, and also provide services for Wounded Warriors.” They also offer recreational and league sports for both children and adults throughout the year such as wheelchair basketball, wheelchair indoor soccer, power soccer, quad rugby and hand-cycling. The popular Jr. Wheelchair Sports Camp, held each August, is filled with exciting adaptive sports for kids including basketball, tennis, archery, rugby, physical conditioning, hip hop dance and more. Founded in 2006, the foundation evolved out of the Junior Athletes in Wheelchair Sports Program that began in 1987. A volunteer-driven organization, Moorehead explains, “SDASF is the only countywide, adaptive sports program that provides such variety in terms of ages served and sports offered.
“We are a dedicated and hard working group who love what we do,” she continues. “We depend on grants, donations and volunteers to keep our important programs running.”
Many clinics and special events are offered throughout the year. Don’t miss the Wheelchair Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Muni Gym in Balboa Park.
